Half marathons are becoming more common for me as I learn what it takes to complete one. Previously, I managed only about one half marathon a year. But recently, I completed two half marathons within 30 days: the first was the 2026 Cancer Run on Kampala's streets, and the second was a 2026 Makerere University Run (MakRun), also on Kampala's streets.
For the Cancer Run, I posted a time of 2 hours 40 minutes and 43 seconds running in the Brooks Glycerin Max shoe. I lost the nails on my big toes on both feet because the shoe held them so tightly for most of the run, with severe pain going down the slopes. Surprisingly, my toes started to recover more cleanly, and that really motivated me to look forward to another run. My refueling during this run was only water, with a little glucose for the last 400m. Here👇 is the report for this run:
For the MakRun, I posted a time of 2 hours 42 minutes and 55 seconds (after starting in a drizzle), running in the Asics Gel-Kayano shoe; this shoe was a bit more comfortable, but my knees, muscles, and joints suffered more and took longer to recover. I should blame my refueling a bit, which held me back, as I had to stop and snack on some sugar cane or watermelon (where I lost a few minutes); I think I should have just grabbed something to snack on the go. And here👇 is the report for the MakRun:
I would like to run a two-hour and 30-minute half marathon, which I think is my current barrier and then maybe try to see what a full marathon goes like.
